Of course, we do not want to deprive you of the results of the beta test and have summarized them for you in this report. Read the rest of this entry »

Meetings with colleagues, joint coffee breaks, self-organization during studies and exchange with fellow students – all of this would not have been so easy since spring 2020 at the latest without progressive digitization and continuous and flexible adaptation to the circumstances.

Whether in teaching, research, studying or everyday work – without the right tools, communication and collaboration between members of RWTH Aachen University is significantly more difficult in times of home office and distance learning. Read the rest of this entry »

New semester, new students! Also this year, the International Office of RWTH Aachen University organized events to welcome the new international students. To prepare them for student life and procedures at RWTH Aachen University, there were many lectures and a variety of supporting programs. The IT Center was also there: we provided information about basic IT services and explained how to use them.

The IT Center at the RWTH Welcome Week

Within the Welcome Week for the summer semester 2022, our employee Linda Jörres had the pleasure to give a lecture entitled “Making use of IT Services”. About 130 participants dialed into the video conference on the morning of March 30, 2022 to learn more about IT services and how to use them.

The very next day, the next item on the agenda for the IT Center was scheduled: Participating in the Freshers’ Fair! This is the information market where students could inform themselves about the different institutions and facilities at RWTH Aachen University, this time even in presence in front of the SuperC. For the IT Center, our employees Dunja Gath and Linda Jörres were on site to answer questions.

Despite the rainy and cold weather, the mood among the new international students was excellent! Many happy faces were welcomed.

We were very happy to be part of the Welcome Week again and would like to take this opportunity to thank the organizing team!

The Metadata Form – Migrate Archive Nodes via Metadata

We know it too well ourselves from moves of all kinds: if we know what is contained in the boxes, it is much easier for us to decide whether we still want to keep certain contents or whether we can say goodbye to them. For this reason, we at least write on the box what is included and where it belongs.

The same goes for data that we want to archive, for example. We don’t have boxes available, but we can “label” the nodes to be archived with metadata. To do this, the appropriate node contacts receive a dedicated link to a metadata form about what exactly belongs to an archive node. What this is all about, you can read in this article.
