Follow-up Report: Lenovo Customer Advisory Forum 2026
This year brings a change regarding customer meetings with framework agreement partners and manufacturers. The new framework agreement for IT client hardware was accompanied by a change in manufacturer. As a result, RWTH and all participating universities in North Rhine-Westphalia were supplied with devices from Lenovo starting September 2025. Our colleague Peter Watzlawik, who is part of the working group for client tenders in collaboration with Department 7.3 – Central Purchasing, was invited by Lenovo to this year’s Customer Advisory Forum (CAF). The event took place from June 9 to 11 in Noordwijk aan Zee, near The Hague.

A Look Back at the RWTH Talk Lehre 2026: AI in the Higher Education Context
The RWTH Talk Lehre 2026 took place on June 10, 2026. Approximately 350 participants from the fields of teaching, research, and university administration attended the presentations, workshops, and discussions both in person and online. The event focused on how artificial intelligence is changing and has already changed higher education, as well as the opportunities and challenges that arise from this.

RWTH Talk Lehre 2026: Shaping AI in Higher Education Together
On June 10, 2026, RWTH Aachen University invites you to the RWTH Talk Lehre 2026. The event will focus on how artificial intelligence is transforming higher education and what opportunities and challenges this presents for faculty and students. The event is aimed at anyone who is actively involved in shaping teaching at RWTH or is interested in doing so.
The Talk Lehre offers an open forum for exchange, new perspectives, and joint discussions on the further development of teaching and learning formats in the context of AI.
The IT Center at the SIGUCCS Annual Conference 2026

From April 12 to 15, 2026, the annual conference of the ACM Special Interest Group on University and College Computing Services (SIGUCCS) took place in Philadelphia. For many years, the event has brought together IT experts from universities worldwide to exchange ideas on developments in IT services, support structures, and the use of new technologies. In addition to traditional presentations, the program also includes workshops, panels, and interactive formats designed to foster professional exchange. The IT Center was also represented this year with two presentations.
HPC Events 2026: From Basics to Simulation

High Performance Computing (HPC) plays a central role in many fields of research—from engineering and data analysis to the simulation of complex physical processes. The IT Center therefore regularly organizes workshops, training sessions, and community events focused on HPC to support researchers and students as they get started and further develop their skills.
In 2026, the event program once again offers numerous opportunities to explore topics related to high-performance computing, scientific programming, and numerical methods. Some events have already taken place, and many more are scheduled throughout the year.

On December 12, 2025, it was that time of year again: the IT Center’s annual Christmas party brought colleagues, former employees, and family members together to end the year in a festive atmosphere. With a wintery atmosphere, good food, and a varied program, the celebrations continued into the evening.
From AiXcelerate 2024 to PPCES 2025
After the aiXcelerate 2023 was replaced by the VI-HPS Porting & Tuning Workshop, the traditional aiXcelerate took place again last year.

CLAIX-2023: A Milestone for Research
October 23, 2024 marks a significant day for us: It was with great joy that we inaugurated our High Performance Computer CLAIX-2023! This modern system marks a significant advance for High Performance Computing and is available to researchers at RWTH and all German universities.
IT Center – We Are in Girona for You!

Dell’s Customer Advisory Council (CAC) was once again held this year for Dell customers from all over Europe. This time, our colleague Peter Watzlawik, who is responsible for client tenders, travelled to Girona, Spain, from June 5 to June 7. On behalf of the IT Center and the “Service and Communication” department, he provided support with questions, new incentives and ideas for constantly improving collaboration.
He has summarised the exciting impressions he gathered at the event for us below.
