In this thesis the influence of room acoustics on auditory selective attention was examined. A hearing experiment in virtual realty was conducted with 16 normal hearing and normal seeing participants at the Institute for Hearing Technology and Acoustics, RWTH Aachen University. For the Experiment, three classroom scenarios representing no room acoustics, good room acoustics (T30=0.48s, C50=10.4dB at 1kHz) and bad room acoustics (T30=1.52s, C50=2.4dB at 1kz) were created. To enhance the realism of the virtual classroom, background noise was presented to half of the participants. The experiment task was to choose if the animal name in the long stimuli sentence was flying or non-flying. The reaction times and error rates were measured. The results revealed a significant effect of room acoustics on error rates, especially in the bad room acoustic condition. No significant effect of room acoustics on reaction times was found. The noise effect in this thesis was not significant either.
