Many people around the world are living with hearing loss. Yet it is often stigmatized, undiagnosed, or ignored. Even though our hearing ability has a profound impact on communication, mental health, and quality of life, many people delay or avoid using well established hearing aids due to cost, accessibility, and social barriers.

Apple is expanding into the health space following the goal of democratizing health and giving users a better overall understanding of their own well-being. Hearing Health is part of this broader vision, where Apple is taking a different approach compared to traditional, well-established hearing solutions.

The presentation will share insights from an internship in Apple’s Acoustics Hearing Health Team in Cupertino, California. How do research, engineering, interdisciplinary collaboration, and user-centered design come together and end up in products millions of people use every day? How does Apple drive innovation in acoustics and other fields? And why is Apple so successful? Beyond a technical perspective, the talk will reflect on Apple’s work culture, experiences as an intern and the daily life in the Silicon Valley.
