The combination of modern signal processing and loudspeaker development enables sound reproduction close to reality. Even though the loudspeaker system exhibits most distortions in terms of amplitude and phase response, those nonlinear responses are close to or even below the perceptual threshold. Yet, the audibility of group delay is still a topic of debate, although previous investigations have already set a reasonable limit to audible group-delay distortions in general and more specifically on loudspeaker crossover filters. Thus, the audibility of such effects has been sufficiently investigated, and this work aims to clarify the question of whether increasing the group delay in real-life listening situations influences the perception of music.
