On November 15, 2022 the Research Data Day in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) will be held for the second time. This time, the motto of the event is “Lighthouse RDM: Orientation in the data sea“.

On this day, events on research data management (RDM) will be held throughout NRW and various universities will present their RDM offerings. The complete programme can be found on the website of the State Initiative for Research Data Management – fdm.nrw.

The RWTH Aachen University is represented in the central morning programme by a presentation by Prof. Geisler and Soo Yon Kim “Is your Data Fit for Sharing? – Research Data Management in the Cluster of Excellence ‘Internet of Production'”. The RDM team will use the afternoon to present the RDM platform Coscine across universities and to strengthen the RDM Network at RWTH Aachen and its connection to the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). At the same time, interested researchers will be given a concrete insight into the NFDI activities at RWTH Aachen.

The following two events will be offered digitally at RWTH Aachen University:

Coscine – FAIR guarantee in the data sea

Coscine is a web-based Research Data Management platform being developed at RWTH Aachen University. Members of participating institutes can log into Coscine with their institutional account via the DFN-AAI authentication and authorisation infrastructure. External users can authenticate themselves via their ORCID. The RDM platform enables the storage, management and archiving of research data and metadata generated in the context of research projects. Thus, Coscine supports researchers in research data management and in maintaining good scientific practice.

The workshop “Coscine – FAIR guarantee in the data sea” will introduce the platform and its features, as well as possible uses for researchers, data stewards, and those interested in RDM. The workshop will also provide space for questions and exchange.

The event will be offered from 1pm to 2pm.

RDM Compass – the RWTH ship on NFDI course

The special event for the open network meeting serves to network the RDM actors at RWTH Aachen and is intended to give RDM-interested, RDM-active and researchers a concrete insight into the NFDI activities at the university. This is a continuation of our successful RWTH4NFDI workshop last year, in which the various consortia at RWTH Aachen presented themselves. You can find a review in both the first and second follow-up reports.

What awaits you this time?

In the first part of the networking event, we will inform you about the NFDI and specifically about the cross-consortium NFDI sections.

Afterwards, researchers and data stewards from RWTH Aachen will report on their specific work priorities within an NFDI consortium. This will also reveal the breadth of RWTH Aachen’s involvement with RDM topics in the context of the numerous NFDI consortia. The short presentations will take place in parallel sessions on the topics of “Metadata, Ontologies & Standards”, “Training & Awareness” and “Concepts, Tools & Infrastructures”.

The subsequent discussion and networking part will focus on making new contacts and exchanging concepts across consortia. At the end, we want to summarise the main discussion points of the day and give all RDM-interested and -committed researchers at the university an orientation to the NFDI.

The event will take place from 2pm to 5pm.

Registration

Interested parties from RWTH Aachen University are cordially invited and can register under this link.

We look forward to your participation in this year’s Research Data Day.

If you have any questions about the RDM network or RDM in general, just write a message to the IT-ServiceDesk.

The RDM team looks forward to hearing from you.
