ENSIMA: One Year Towards Green Simulation

Source: ENSIMA (Gauß-Allianz)
The three-year ENSIMA project (energy-efficient simulation methods for application-oriented computing problems), part of the BMBF’s “Energy-efficient HPS (Green HPC)” program, was launched almost a year ago. The aim of this project is to use AI methods to improve the selection of design parameters in production processes and to accelerate simulation processes through approximate and heterogeneous computing. You can also read our blog post about IT Zauber, another project under this program.
IT-Zauber: Efficient Data Centres

Recently, we had the honour of experiencing a remarkable talk by Bronis R. de Supinski, the CTO of Livermore Computing, who dove deep into the design and insights behind the NNSA (National Nuclear Security Administration, part of the United States Department of Energy) Exascale System, El Capitan.
WestAI: The AI Center in Western Germany
Artificial intelligence (AI) is driving technological progress at an unprecedented speed, revolutionizing numerous industries and opening up enormous potential for the automation of intelligent tasks or the development of completely new products and services. While the introduction of AI is progressing rapidly in other parts of the world, Germany is still lagging far behind in both business and science, even though AI is considered a relevant topic by most. This is due to a lack of access to hardware resources and adequate services to support users, combined with a research gap in the development of scalable methods and systems.
University Development Plan

As the central IT institution of RWTH Aachen University, the IT Center makes a significant contribution to the effective, efficient, and secure operation of the university’s IT infrastructure. As an integral part of a technical university with a focus on teaching, research and infrastructure, our primary goal is to develop IT service management processes that are adapted to the specific requirements and needs of RWTH Aachen University. In this context, the university development plan also plays an important role for the IT Center, as it not only forms the basis for RWTH’s strategic development planning, but also significantly influences the direction and further development of the IT Center.

The IT Center as Part of DH.NRW
In the first blog post on “Digitale Hochschule NRW” (DH.NRW), we gave you a general description of what the cooperation is exactly and what it deals with. You already know that RWTH Aachen University is one of the 42 participating universities.
In this article we would like to show you to what extent the IT Center is involved and which projects it is responsible for.
The Webex Go-Live Is Coming Soon!
After a test phase lasting several months, the day has come: On November 2, 2023, the Webex application will be made available to all employees of RWTH Aachen University. In the long term, Webex is intended to replace the Jabber client, as Jabber is only being further developed to a limited extent.
But what exactly is Webex and how does it work? We would like to explain this to you in a total of three blog posts.
In this first post of the Webex series we talk in general about Webex and how the first steps are, so that you can use the app properly.
