Innovative Learning: MoodleCafé begins

This semester, the Center for Teaching and Learning Services (CLS) is offering the new digital exchange format “MoodleCafé” for the first time via Zoom, which focuses on a selected Moodle topic with best practice examples from RWTH teaching practice. This semester’s topics include the Moodle activities “StudentQuiz” and “Peer Review“.
The first MoodleCafé will take place on June 12 from 2pm to 3 pm and will focus on the collaborative StudentQuiz. This offers numerous didactic advantages by enabling students to create, answer and evaluate quiz questions together, while at the same time integrating gamification elements to increase motivation. From automated decision-making to data protection and privacy issues, technological developments have a significant impact on society. Today, information and communication technologies have become a matter of course and indispensable in all areas of life. Ethics has long been an issue in business and the world of IT is also increasingly concerned with moral issues. In the context of artificial intelligence (AI) in particular, such conflicts are becoming increasingly prominent. In today’s blog post, we want to shed light on ethical influences in the IT sector.
HPC Landing Page: High Performance Computing
High Performance Computing (HPC) at RWTH Aachen University acts as a central building block to support the simulation sciences by enabling the development of scalable algorithms and software. Of central importance for innovation in business and society, RWTH High Performance Computing offers various services and research opportunities based on a first-class infrastructure. This means that HPC applications can be executed efficiently and in a scalable manner and large amounts of data can be processed securely and quickly.
Implementation is supported by projects such as JARA, HPC.NRW and, in particular, the National High Performance Computing Center for Computational Engineering Science (NHR4CES). You can read more under the category HPCnews on our blog.
SocialHub :) PopUp Event 2024

How do we actually manage our social media channels? In order to have all channels at a glance and to efficiently optimize the online presence of the IT Center, we, the editorial team, use the tool SocialHub:).
So of course, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to attend this year’s pop-up event in Cologne. Invited guests included SocialHub customers who use the tool in their company as well as external guest speakers.
New Function in the Telephone-Administration

Until now, telephone numbers and telephones were managed and controlled centrally.
With a new function in the TK-Portal, administrators can now manage telephones for their facilities independently.
To be able to use this, you need the “Verwaltung Telefonie” role, which can be issued to you by the relevant role manager.

Community Meeting of Moodle.NRW

Harald Schnurbusch at the presentation “Exam Scan – Digital insight for paper-pencil exams”
After the Moodle university meeting at the University of Leipzig in March, the competence centers ILIAS.nrw and Moodle.NRW jointly invited to a community meeting at the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) on April 10. The meeting was aimed at all those involved in the use and development of the Moodle or ILIAS learning platforms at their university or other educational institutions. Colleagues from the “Service & Communication” department also accepted the invitation and are happy to report on the gathering here.
In addition to the opportunity to exchange ideas with other participants in personal discussions, a total of 16 sessions were held on various topics relating to the platforms and the design of digital teaching. RWTH Aachen University was also involved with a presentation. As in Leipzig, Harald Schnurbusch from the Center for Teaching and Learning Services (CLS) presented the Moodle plugin Exam Scan developed at RWTH.
Availability During the Company Excursion

Our annual company excursion will take place on Friday, April 19, 2024, which means that some employees of the IT Center and the IT-ServiceDesk will not be available on this day. In some cases, there may be delays in ticket processing or telephone availability.

RWTH Aachen University once again welcomed new students for the summer semester 2024 with the traditional Welcome Week! This series of events is an excellent opportunity, especially for international students, to get to know the services and processes at RWTH Aachen University.
The IT Center was also there again on April 3, 2024 and was live on site at the Freshers’ Fair as part of the Welcome Week to answer your questions. In the following blog post, we report on the successful exchanges with the students.
