“CAMPUS-Office for Students” Says Goodbye to a Well-Deserved Retirement
Next Monday, 16.12.2019, we say goodbye to CAMPUS-Office of the RWTH. The former campus management system for planning studies and teaching will be finally switched off this weekend. Its functions have been replaced by RWTHonline since the winter semester 2018. What this means for you and what you should do before we say “Bye-bye CAMPUS-Office” on Monday, you will find out in this article.

Moodle around the World – and We Took Part!
Moodle is not only the most widely used learning management system in the world, as an open source system, it is also supported and constantly expanded by a large global Moodle family. So, it was about time for an international “family meeting”: The first ever MoodleMoot Global.

Every beginning is difficult, but it doesn’t have to be that at RWTH Aachen University. Even though the “Ersti-Week” is long over, fixed allocations are set in RWTHonline and RWTHmoodle course rooms are being used, matriculation is still in progress. Particularly in the International Office, it happens that students cannot begin their studies at the RWTH until later due to entry regulations or succession procedures.

Bevor die neue Lehr- und Lernplattform RWTHmoodle zum Sommersemester 2019 gestartet ist und somit das bisherige System L²P abgelöst hat, haben wir uns die Zeit genommen, um die Erfahrung der Nutzenden nach der zweiten Pilotphase zu evaluieren. Ziel war es, ein Bild davon zu bekommen, wie das neue System von den Verantwortlichen und den Teilnehmenden der Lernräume angenommen wird und, an welcher Stelle Optimierungspotenziale bestehen. Wie bereits bei der RWTHmoodle-Nutzerzufriedenheitsumfrage zum Sommersemester 2018 wurde auch dieses Mal die Befragung online durchgeführt. Befragt wurden alle Personen, die während des Wintersemester 2018/19 in mindestens einem Lernraum von RWTHmoodle gebucht gewesen sind. Insgesamt wurden 1984 Fragebögen vollständig ausgefüllt.
Welcome Week and Ersti Rally 2019/2020 – For a Smooth (Digital) Start at RWTH Aachen University
For some years now, the International Office has been welcoming the new international students during Welcome Week and preparing them for their first semester at RWTH Aachen University. Also this year the almost traditional Welcome Week was started by the International Office. In addition to the International Office, the team for admissions matters, the Foreigners’ Office and numerous advisory bodies and organisations were also present at this special introductory week. The IT Center took part again as well.
The participants were supported in all aspects of study, organization and life at the RWTH. All important questions about the beginning of the semester & Co. were answered with the help of presentations, consultations and the Fresher’s Fair in our Audimax.

Die MoodleMoot DACH 2019, die offizielle MoodleMoot für den deutschsprachigen Raum, fand dieses Jahr im September in Wien statt. Als Gastgeber präsentierte sich die Technischer Universität bei schönstem Herbstwetter von Ihrer besten Seite. Hoch über den Dächern von Wien, in einem der ersten Plus-Energie-Bürogebäude im universitären Bereich, bot sich den Teilnehmenden nicht nur eine wunderbare Aussicht, sondern auch die Möglichkeit, an den vier Tagen der Veranstaltung an vielen verschiedenen Sessions teilzunehmen.

RWTHmoodle Even Better – Improvements in the Summer Semester 2019
With the end of September 2019 the first semester with RWTHmoodle as a university-wide learning platform ended. Though we have already put the system through its paces in three test and pilot phases, the live operation with several tens of thousands of users brings its own challenges and experiences. For the RWTHmoodle team, the go-live was by no means the end of the development of the system and its support structures. Rather, the IT Center and the Center for Teaching and Learning Services, Department of Learning Platform Management (CLS/LPM) used this first semester to adapt the operation, technical development, and support to the needs of the users.
