How does the sound environment affect children’s listening and learning? This question guided IHTA’s contribution throughout five years of the Equal-Life project. Now, as the project concludes, the Equal-Life Toolbox provides accessible insights into how environmental factors, including acoustics, shape well-being across the lifespan.
The sound environment section highlights contributions from the Institute of Hearing Technology and Acoustics (IHTA) at RWTH Aachen University, showing how age influences auditory perception and listening effort. Children, in particular, face increased challenges in noisy classroom settings, where interactive activities such as group work can substantially increase listening demands compared to quieter, individual tasks.
