The Series of Successes Continues – Funding for Consortia With RWTH Participation Approved
At the end of the year, there is not only something new to announce from the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI), but also reason to rejoice for RWTH Aachen University. After we reported on the funding recommendation of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) in July, the final decision on the future funded consortia of the 3rd round was made last month.

NFDI Basic Services: Schedule and Reactions
On our blog, we have already reported on the decoupling of NFDI Basic Services from the third round of calls for proposals. In the blog post NFDI-Basisdienste – Ein Überblick über die Entstehung und den weiteren Verlauf der Querschnittskonsortien (NFDI Basis Services – An overview of the emergence and further development of the cross-sectional consortia), the beginnings of the Basic Services were highlighted, the statement of the DFG was summarized, and a small outlook into the near future was given.
Contrary to what was assumed at the time, the German Research Foundation (DFG) has already published the schedule for the decision-making process for basic services funding in December 2021 and this has already caused some reactions from the scientific community. In this blog post we would like to inform you about it.
NFDI in the DFG Funding Atlas
In this article, we would like to inform you about the recently published Funding Atlas of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the key figures on publicly funded research in Germany. Published only every three years, this report is considered and serves as a “long-term observation of the German research landscape.” In this latest edition, the most recent decisions in the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) program also receive accentuated consideration, and with it the role of RWTH Aachen University.

Die Gemeinsame Wissenschaftskonferenz (GWK) hat Anfang Juli 2021 die Einrichtung der „Kommission für Forschungsinformationen in Deutschland (KFiD)“ für zunächst sechs Jahre beschlossen und erste Mitglieder benannt. So schnell kann’s gehen: Letzte Woche erst haben wir über unseren erfolgreichen RWTH4NFDI-Workshop berichtet. Dort stellten die verschiedensten Konsortien sich, ihre Arbeit, Ziele und Visionen vor – und nun erreichte uns die erfreuliche Nachricht, dass vom Expertengremium der Deutschen Förderungsgesellschaft (DFG) eine Förderempfehlung für einige dieser Konsortien ausgesprochen wurde! NFDI – Start der zweiten Ausschreibungsrunde
Vergangene Woche hat die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) den teilnehmenden Initiativen der ersten Ausschreibungsrunde individuell mitgeteilt, ob sie eine Förderung im Rahmen des Aufbaus einer Nationalen Forschungsdateninfrastruktur (NFDI) empfiehlt. Die endgültige Entscheidung über eine mögliche Förderung trifft die Gemeinsame Wissenschaftskonferenz (GWK) am 26. Juni.
Zu Beginn der Woche ist bereits die zweite Ausschreibungsrunde gestartet.
