Dark Data – Data that no one knows about anymore

“Keeping order is not difficult. Cleaning up, on the other hand, is very difficult.” That’s kind of the saying, isn’t it? No matter how you spin the proverb, this principle applies not only to children’s rooms and closets, it also applies to our digital memories, and many people are not yet aware of this. Just because we can’t touch digitized data doesn’t mean it doesn’t waste space or energy. In Germany, around 66 percent of the data held is “dark” and lies below the surface of users’ consciousness. Safe on the Internet: Certificate change of RWTH Single Sign-On

“The connection is secure” – These words contain a short but revealing piece of information. A valid certificate for a website indicates if it has a secure connection and sensitive data, such as passwords or bank data, are transmitted in a protected environment – this is also the case with RWTH Single Sign-On. The certificate for sso.rwth-aachen.de has now been replaced, as the existing one expires on July 28, 2021. Have you noticed this? Some services were temporarily unavailable during the changeover, but are now running again. That’s it: The IT Center EM 2021 Riddle

As of Sunday, 11 July 2021 23:55, it is official: The Italian national team has won the title at the European Championship 2021. Italy defeated England by a 3-2 score after a dramatic penalty shoot-out during the final match.

11 countries, 24 teams, 51 matches, 142 goals – including 11 own goals and 8 overtimes with 4 penalty shootouts – it was an exciting and emotional European Championship.

With more than 3,500 attendees and exhibiting companies, this year’s ISC 2021 Digital is the largest virtual community gathering for High Performance Computing (HPC), Machine Learning (ML) and High Performance Data Analytics (HPDA). New layout for PasswordReset

Who does not know it? With all the passwords and usernames you have to remember, it can easily happen that you suddenly can’t remember anything when logging in.

Fortunately, this is not a problem at all because there is the possibility to set a new password before logging into the RWTH Single Sign-On or to have the username sent to you. After a total of 38 exciting games, the final of this year’s European Championship will take place next Sunday, 11 July 2021. At 9 p.m., Italy and England will face off at London’s venerable Wembley Stadium.

The IT Center is a central IT facility of RWTH Aachen University that supports the university’s core processes and provides IT services. Regardless of whether a service is provided specifically for a single customer or in the same way for many customers, corresponding processes must be developed or analysed and optimised. The customers and users of the (IT-)services provided by the IT Center include not only students, employees and institutions of RWTH Aachen University, but also other universities and external research institutions and companies. Digitization, cloud, high-performance computing, 5G and the associated IT infrastructure – the developments in the IT industry are unstoppable.
