Review of SC25: HPC Highlights From St. Louis

The Supercomputing Conference 2025 (SC25), one of the world’s most important conferences in the field of high-performance computing, took place this year in St. Louis, Missouri (USA). Under the motto “HPC ignites,” around 15,000 participants gathered to discuss current research results, technological developments, and future trends in supercomputing. The IT Center was represented by three participants, who took the opportunity to exchange ideas with international experts and gain valuable insights from the vibrant HPC community.

Green HPC: Sustainability in the Data Centers of Tomorrow

Digital technologies have become an integral part of science and industry – but data centers are among the biggest energy consumers in the IT sector. High-performance computers in particular are essential for complex calculations in research, but at the same time cause high electricity costs and CO2 emissions. To meet these challenges, RWTH Aachen University is focusing on innovative solutions for energy efficiency and sustainable resource utilisation.

We are celebrating the launch of the Rhine-Ruhr Center for Scientific Data Literacy (DKZ.2R)! The overarching goal of the Rhine-Ruhr Data Competence Center is to offer researchers a space to support their projects and build methodological expertise in data science, high performance computing (HPC), research data management (RDM) and machine learning.

Participation in the Conception Phase of the DKZ.2R

Together with the Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ), the IT Center is participating in the conception phase of the Data Competence Center for the Rhine-Ruhr region, DKZ.2R for short. 22 projects were selected by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) from a total of 74 applications to participate in the conception phase.
