Video Tutorials on Multifactor-Authentication and the Token Manager

On February 1, 2024, the RWTH Aachen University introduced multifactor-authentication (MFA) for the VPN service. This will significantly improve the protection of the IT services you use.
You can learn how to use MFA for VPN and how to set up your second authentication factor in the Token Manager in the first videos in our video series on multifactor-authentication, which we are presenting to you today.

Improper behavior and naivety in dealing with information technology can have serious, costly consequences. That is why the security awareness of users in particular should be actively encouraged. IT security also plays a major role at the IT Center. In this blog, for example, we repeatedly draw your attention to security risks and explain how you can be more aware when using information technology. A Confidential Connection – VPN at the RWTH Aachen University
Many will already know the three big letters – V P N. This is the abbreviation for “Virtual Private Network”.
Using various available protocols, an encrypted connection, a so-called “tunnel”, is established between your computer and the VPN server. All data traffic into the RWTH network – or, depending on the operating mode, all traffic – passes through this encrypted tunnel. Only from the VPN server onwards does the data begin its conventional unencrypted path into the network. Logically, the user’s computer has moved to a subnet of the RWTH Aachen University: In the “Full Tunnel” he now appears to third parties with an IP address of RWTH Aachen University.
