Last month, the 190th Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) took place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At this conference, IHTA was represented by Michael Vorländer and Lukas Aspöck.
At the end of his term, honoring his service as president of the ASA, Michael Vorländer was presented with the ASA tuning fork by his successor, Ann Bradlow.

As part of the session „The Many Dimensions of Jont B. Allen’s Scientific Legacy“, Michael Vorländer gave an invited presentation titled „Hall of mirros“ related to the famous Image Source publication by Allen and Berkley, while Lukas Aspöck was responsible for the invited contribution „From rays back to waves – models and challenges for room impulse response synthesis“ in the session „Ray Methods Across Acoustics“. In preperation of the upcoming major international congress acoustics ’27 in Brussels, the meeting in Philadelphia was also used to establish further collaborations and coordinate the session planning between the technical committees of EAA and ASA.
Furthermore a team of three students (Melchior Käppel from IHTA/RWTH, Nicolas D’Oria from RWTH, and Sergio de las Heras from Aalto Acoustics Lab) joined ASA’s Student Design Competition and won the Commendation Award for the contribution The Groovy Grotto, documenting a design of an outdoor concert venue and proposed acoustic solutions for natural and unamplified hearing on stage and environmental noise control. Congratulations to Melchior, Nicolas and Sergio, great work!
The Gallery of Acoustics at ASA Meetings was estabslished by the Technical Committee on Computational Acoustics and allows researchers to display their scientific work to all meeting attendees in form of short 3-minute-videos, also allowing a creative, non-conventional presentation style. Pascal Palenda and Lukas Aspöck contributed to the Gallery of Acoustics with a video on IHTA’s simulation environments and the usage of bird names for the software libraries.
