In consultation with the University Medical Center, the University has decided to extend the vaccination offer to all university members born on or before December 31, 1997. Anyone from the previously invited age groups will, of course, still be eligible to book an appointment.

The booking portal, which can be found at this link, will be open for the new age group from 8 am on Tuesday June 29, 2021. Employees need their personnel number to book an appointment, while students need their student ID number. If you do not know it, you can find it in the RWTH Selfservice under RWTH Data.

Please contact

• the University Medical Center regarding any medical questions,
• the IT Service Desk if you have any technical issues,
• the relevant HR department if you have any questions about your personnel number, and
• the Registrar’s Office if you have any questions about your student ID number.

Please also note the following information from the University Medical Center:

• They are currently only using BioNTech’s mRNA vaccine.
• Due to the still existing vaccine shortage, everyone must adhere to the six-week interval between the two vaccinations. It is not possible to deviate from scheduled appointments for personal reasons.
• Individuals who have already received a first vaccination at another facility (vaccination center, family practice, etc.) cannot book their second vaccination through the University Medical Center.
• If there are currently no appointments available in the booking portal of the University Medical Center, please check regularly to see if new appointments have been posted. The University Medical Center usually sets new appointments for the following week around the middle of each week.

The Crisis Management Team will inform you immediately as soon as younger cohorts are eligible to book a vaccination appointment.

•  If, at any time, there are no more appointments available in the booking portal of the University Medical Center, please keep checking back periodically to see if any new slots have been posted. The University Medical Center usually enters new appointment slots for the following week around mid-week. • The state government will open the booking portal for vaccinations at vaccination centers to all residents of NRW aged 16 and over from 8 am on Saturday, June 26, 2021. Appointments can be booked online at www.116117.de.

The Crisis Management Team will notify you as soon as further information on the subject of vaccination becomes available.

Based on the current federal and state regulations, the RWTH Rectorate and the Crisis Management Team have adapted some measures at the University:

Please note that when it comes to the compulsory testing requirement, examiners do not have to provide a separate examination room to exam candidates who have not been tested, recovered from Covid-19, or vaccinated. It is sufficient to offer such students a simultaneous remote exam option.

Please also take note of the following:

• It is still compulsory to wear a mouth and nose covering in all corridors and hallways of RWTH buildings.
• Self-tests can still be obtained free of charge from the RWTH Purchasing Portal.

Finally, the Crisis Management Team would like to point out that employees and students are not obliged to provide information about their status regarding the Covid-19 vaccination. Duty of disclosure only applies if there is a legal basis for doing so (such as for anyone in a hospital environment) or if the state government has explicitly called for it.

The Family Services Team of the RWTH Gender Equal Opportunities Office (GSB) is once again offering a summer vacation recreation program this year. Camps for children are offered during the first three weeks and the last week of summer vacation. To guarantee that the vacation camps will actually be taking place even though the pandemic is still not contained and to ensure everyone’s safety at the same time, the Family Service has decided to reduce group sizes and make a negative Coronavirus test a prerequisite for participation.

The RWTH Gym and the beach courts of the University Sports Center will reopen starting June 21. In light of the positive trend regarding the coronavirus incidence levels, the HSZ is also planning an extended transition program beginning June 21. Contact sports and an indoor program will also resume on June 28. “We hope to restore a bit of normalcy to all students and employees and provide them with opportunities for social contact in addition to sports activities,” explains Peter Lynen, director of the HSC. Detailed information about the program can be found under the sports search. Testing is still required for contact and indoor sports and training in the RWTH GYM. The sauna, locker rooms, sanitary facilities (except Stadium Königshügel), and outdoor fitness facilities remain closed.

On Monday, June 21, 2021, Mensa Academica will open its seating area so that guests can once again enjoy their meal inside the dining hall. The emergency catering service currently in operation will be phased out and replaced with expanded catering services. In addition to the meat/fish and vegan/vegetarian dishes, the specialty counters will resume offering burgers, salads, pasta and pizza (alternating weekly), and stir-fry dishes. The take out service will continue to be available.

Due to the positive developments regarding the rates of infection and the resulting new legal framework, the Rectorate, the Crisis Management Team and the chairpersons of the examination boards, the deans of academic affairs, and the Vice-Rector for Teaching and Learning have developed a concept for reopening the University in some areas.

This concept includes general conditions for courses and exams but also for cultural events. It can be downloaded here: Concept for Reopening the University

Currently, the relevant guidelines on teaching and learning are being adapted accordingly. As soon as they are available, we will notify you again.

For the areas of research and regular university operations, we still have to wait for federal regulations for the period after July 1. We expect to implement the next steps in slowly reopening RWTH after that.

Since many reopening steps depend on the rates of infection in both Aachen Städteregion and NRW, the regulations in effect for the incidence levels on a given day must be observed.
