Point Clouds has been used in architectural representation and digital reconstruction, usually are called Digital Twins. These models should offer measurement accuracy and complete compatibility in all phases of architectural design and simulation. The standards of data treatment and the pipework available are licensed by software companies unable to offer the control of the information neither to be flexible in all cases, especially in historical buildings and singular analysis projects. Digital Twins are used in multiple architectural studies, some examples are structural analysis, historical documentation, heritage studies, thermal analysis, topography, urban management and landscape. The usage of different software from different companies generates one-way pipeline file formats that lakes compatibility in multidisciplinary studies. In order to achieve full compatibility between multiple studies, available data has to be converted or modified in several different ways depending on the software used.

To achieve our goals, the methodology developed must be flexible in all its phases and be able to be tuned to generate the best possible model. Traditional data management pipelines require adapted data capture to the type of file needed and the program used. Our work has been focused to adapt all data capture techniques using open-source technology to achieve a unified and flexible methodology by using own automatized modular scripts. We also achieve full data control by modifying data structures, calibrating optics or re-writing file formats with data replacement. To fulfill all needs and optimize data capture we ensure cross-compatibility between all forms of raw data without information loss either when using software from companies as Autodesk, Adobe, Bentley, PolyWorks, etc.

Some of the type of procedures included in our methodology are: Fully controlled scan alignment, point cloud management and processing, Photogrammetry (also from video), TLS, Drone mapping, Reality-to-BIM, 3D meshes with controlled accuracy textures and topographical/GIS compatibility. All of the procedures are currently being used in real cases scenarios.

The presentation will be focused in explaining this methodology step by step through a series of real projects where our methods have been applied and cross-compatibility is achieved.
