It’s hard to believe: December is already drawing to a close and a new year is practically in sight. We also take a look back and take you with us as we review the year 2021…
Reasons to celebrate
Throughout the year there were always reasons to celebrate!
For example, there were a few “birthdays” and in May 2021 it was “Happy Birthday, RWTHmoodle!”. We also had something to celebrate in July: our documentation portal IT Center Help had its one-year anniversary. In addition, we were pleased and excited about the founding of the NHR e. V. association and RWTH’s participation in the founding of the “Moodle at Universities” association.
In the summer there was a brief step towards a bit of normality:
In July, we had a high visit from the North Rhine-Westphalian Minister of Finance. There, the NRW Finance Minister Lutz Lienenkämper was able to visit the CLAIX-2018 and the AixCave, among other things, during a tour of the IT Center.
In September, two more events took place on site: The NHR4CES team event and the welcoming of the new MATSE trainees at the MATSE ErstiEvent.
However, the IT Center also shines at digital events, as was recently proven in March 2021:
After all original plans for a presence event had to be thrown overboard, the ZKI Spring Conference at the IT Center became an online event that is second to none!
Speaking of events: The IT Center launched the IT Center Events pages in mid-2021. Curious about what else is coming?
And there was something else to celebrate:
Eight NFDI consortia with RWTH participation were funded by the DFG! The IT Center is involved in the NFDI-MatWerk consortium and is delighted about the funding!
Things are in motion!
Nothing is as constant as change. This is also the case at the IT Center: A lot has happened in 2021!
We welcomed Coscine and RWTHjupyter as new additions to the group of services. The archive migration, Datensicherung.NRW and IDM.nrw projects have reached new milestones. Important questions about 5G and the associated project were addressed. The NHR4CES merger introduced new project categories for HPC project proposals.
With the current pandemic and the latest major cyberattacks, IT security is playing a bigger role than ever in our everyday lives. Of course, the IT security awareness campaign cannot be missing from the year in review!
In May, the “Microsoft Federal Contract 3.0” brought us a major change. Because as of May 1st 2021, the previous licensing models for Microsoft products were changed – true to the motto “Everything is new with M(a)icrosoft“.
GigaMove has become GigaMove 2.0, PasswordReset and Selfservice have a new design since this year. In the course of the network renewal, the telephone application was changed from analogue to digital.
We also gave you a glimpse into the future: As a foretaste of the relaunch in 2022, you can already test the new RWTHApp.
Since February 2021, when you contact our IT-ServiceDesk, you will be guided through a so-called Interactive Voice Response (IVR). The reason: the new omnichannel system! In addition, the feedback function for support requests was introduced.
You also have to be able to let go!
After we said goodbye to our TIM system last year, it was time to say goodbye to the TIM-ID in 2021!
And last but not least: After 14 long years, the old learning portal L2P was switched off.
The IT Center “behind the scenes”
In the still-Corona year 2021, we have again reported on the things that make the IT Center the IT Center: The people.
After celebrating the first anniversary of working in the HomeOffice in March, we celebrated a digital IT Center summer party in June. We cheered on the European Football Championship and organised an IT Center EM 2021 riddle.
And then there is almost a bit of normality again: MATSEs completed their training, new number crunchers are coming!
In the onboarding blog series, new employees and their “digital” entry into the IT Center were introduced. In addition, our trainee Tim Böttcher told us about his guide dog.
Soon it will be “Same procedure as last year, Miss Sophie?” and the year 2022 will begin.
We look back with pride on 2021 and look forward to the coming year! Stay healthy and take care of yourselves!
