November 13, 2022 was the Day of Blogging. A blog is a great way to encourage exchange and interaction and, of course, to share information and news. It’s not for nothing that our blogs are part of our social media presence. In celebration of yesterday’s day, we prepared a few facts about our blogs:

The software only throws error messages? A bug, for sure.
The term “bug” has long since crept into everyday life. Most people know it from working with electronic devices.
Company Trip 2022 – Finally In Person Again!

What was still hopeful last time became reality: After a digital company event in 2020, we were finally able to get together in person again this year. Despite the bad weather that had been announced, around 140 IT Center colleagues took part in the company trip. So much commitment was rewarded by the weather of Aachen – it improved hourly. The meeting point was at Kopernikusstraße 6 on October 21 at 9 am. Introduction of Adobe SeviRe

From now on, Adobe can be found in the Selfsevice of Virtual Resources (SeviRe). RWTH employees who have the role of „IT-purchaser” now have the option to manage licenses for Adobe there.

News From the Areas of Servers, Storage and Server Hosting

We have some news to announce since our last status report from the Systems & Operation Department (SuB). Since December 1, 2021, there are new framework agreements for the procurement of servers and SAN storage systems. In the Virtual Server Hosting section, we have updated information on the infrastructure, the updated VM limits of Virtual Server Hosting as well as new processes for ordering VMs. Stay tuned to learn more about virtual machines and resources at RWTH Aachen University.
New Work – Working from home as a new form of work
Until the beginning of 2020 the normal day-to-day work basically looked normal for almost everyone:
Getting to work in the morning, spending the day in the office with the team, holding meetings, having a quick chat with each other at the coffee machine, and in the evening heading back home again.

Suddenly, this routine was interrupted. The pandemic changed the way we worked as we knew it, and new or rather less common forms took root, such as working from home.
As of March 2020, working from home was the new norm for many workers. This confronted us all with new and major challenges that we had to adapt to in a timely manner.
The IT Center Picture Puzzle: Systems and Operation Department

#MeetMeWednesday: Recently we had another picture puzzle in store for you. In this puzzle, we were looking for the keyword for the Systems and Operation department. Could you guess it?
The word we were looking for was “gearwheel”. Georg Schramm, head of the department, tells us what it means and how this key word represents the department.
Changed Opening Hours of the IT-ServiceDesk on October 21, 2022

Hello Herne! Further Education Days in the Ruhr Region

I was able to go on an educational trip to the Advanced Training Academy of the Ministry of the Interior of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (FAH) in Herne recently as part of our internal advanced training concept. What my time was like during the two-day training on the topic of personnel marketing and employer branding, how important the topic is in times of labour shortage and what other exciting content I took away with me, I have recorded for you in this blog post.

90 new trainees began their dual training as mathematical-technical software developers (MATSE) on September 1.
